Development of a search filter for identifying studies completed in primary care
Conclusion: The best performing combination search filter works well in reducing the number of irrelevant papers retrieved in a MEDLINE (OvidSP) search if a busy clinician needs to focus on research relevant to primary care.

Depression leads to incident vascular disease: evidence for the relevance to primary care
Conclusions. The association between depression and incident vascular disease is observed in patients diagnosed and managed by primary care physicians. Primary care physicians have an opportunity to impact this association. Guidelines for primary care providers are needed to prompt aggressive depression treatment and vascular disease screening.

Developing a computerised search to help UK General Practices identify more patients for palliative care planning: a feasibility study
Conclusions: It is possible to significantly improve the identification of patients for palliative care needs assessment using a computerised search however barriers remain to GPs’ finding it acceptable. Time-efficient systems were important as was a generic tool for anticipatory care planning not linked to ‘palliative’ care.

Vascular Outcomes in Patients With Screen-Detected or Clinically Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes: Diabscreen Study Follow-up.
CONCLUSIONS Opportunistic targeted screening for type 2 diabetes detected patients with higher CVD morbidity at baseline when compared with clinical diagnosis but showed similar CVD mortality and major CVD morbidity after 7.7 years. Opportunistic targeted screening and guided care appears to improve vascular outcomes in type 2 diabetes in primary care. PMID: 23319502 [PubMed - in process]

Analysis of the psychological impact of a vascular risk factor intervention: results from a cluster randomized controlled trial in Australian general practice
Conclusions: The reduction of K10 in the intervention group demonstrates that a general practice based intervention to identify and manage vascular risk factors did not adversely impact on the psychological distress of the participants. The impact of the intervention on distress was not mediated by a change in the behavioural risk factors or BMI, suggesting that there must be other mediators that might explain the positive impact of the intervention on emotional wellbeing.Trial registration: Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry ACTRN12607000423415.

Efficacy and safety of autologous platelet rich plasma for the treatment of vascular ulcers in primary care: Phase III study
The objectives of this study are to assess the potential efficacy and safety of autologous platelet rich plasma for the treatment of venous ulcers compared to the conventional treatment (moist wound care) in primary care patients with chronic venous insufficiency (C, clinical class, E, aetiology, A, anatomy and P, pathophysiology classification C6).DesignWe will conduct a phase III, open-label, parallel-group, multicentre, randomized study. The subjects will be 150 patients aged between 40 and 100 years of age with an at least 2-month history of a vascular venous ulcer assigned to ten primary care centres. For the treatmen...

Association between different risk factors and vascular accelerated ageing (EVA study): study protocol for a cross-sectional, descriptive observational study
Introduction The process of population ageing that is occurring in developed societies represents a major challenge for the health system. The aim of this study is to analyse factors that have an influence on early vascular ageing (EVA), estimated by carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cf-PWV) and Cardio Ankle Vascular Index (CAVI), and to determine differences by gender in a Spanish population. Methods and analysis An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. Study population From the population assigned to the participating healthcare centres, a cluster random sampling stratified by age and gender will be per...

The search for person-related information in general practice: a qualitative study
Conclusion. As PeRI is used in the process of decision-making, it should be part of the EMR. The PeRI classes we identified might form the basis of a new contextual classification mainly for research purposes. This might help to create evidence of the person-centredness of general practice.
